Around 150 farmers from Sultanabad have opposed the proposed acquisition of 182 hectares for the Arapur MIDC project covering Arapur, Sultannabad and Gawali Shivar.
Calling it a threat to their livelihood, they submitted a memorandum to the land records office on Wednesday demanding immediate halt to the survey. The memorandum stated that the land is highly fertile and supports agriculture-based livelihoods. Farmers warned that acquisition would render hundreds of families landless and intensify their agitation if the process continues. “Our land is our livelihood; we cannot give fertile farmland for industries,” said farmer Adinath Dhanure.
