Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A young man lured a woman, who was preparing for police recruitment, with a promise of marriage and sexually assaulted her.

He later refused to marry her. The incidents occurred between October 18, 2024, and December 22, 2025. A rape case was registered against him at the Cidco Police Station on May 11.

The accused has been identified as Nitesh Ram Chavan ( Tabela, Lonar, Buldhana), who is currently serving as a constable in the SRPF, Nagpur.

According to the complaint filed by the 22-year-old victim, who belongs to Jalna district, she had come to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 2023 to prepare for police recruitment.

The accused Nitesh was also preparing for the same at that time. They lived in nearby areas and eventually became acquainted, and that grew into a friendship.

She would occasionally bring him food to his room. In 2024, Nitesh was recruited into the State Reserve Police Force, Nagpur. He promised her in October 2024 that they would marry after his training was completed.

When she visited his room on October 18, 2024, he was alone and forced himself upon her despite her resistance, using the marriage promise as a pretext.

Subsequently, he assaulted her multiple times in his room, her room, and twice at a lodge near Rose Garden. He had secretly clicked her photographs and later threatened to make them viral when he refused to marry her. PSI Nivritti Gayke is investigating the case.
