Aurangabad, Dec 9:

A woman gave birth in an auto rickshaw in front of the casualty ward in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday. The delivery was safe due to the prompt action of the doctors and staff.

As per information, a pregnant woman from Bramhangaon near Ellora had come to the GMCH in a rickshaw for delivery along with her relatives on Wednesday morning. As soon as the rickshaw reached GMCH, the girl''s father ran to the blood bank of the casualty ward and requested the staff to come for help as his daughter was suffering from labour pain. Recognizing the situation, staff nurse Kunda Pansare went to the casualty ward and informed brother Abasaheb Vaidya, nurse Trupti Mandve. They reached the rickshaw. The staff reassured the woman and her relatives. The woman was told to sleep in the rickshaw. The staff covered the rickshaw with a curtain. Dr Yogita Deore also rushed for help. Within minutes, the baby''s cries were heard and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The baby and mother were then moved to the ward.

Mother, baby safe

The situation might have been different if the woman had delivered the baby on the road or inside the corridor. But fortunately, thanks to everyone''s efforts, the delivery in the rickshaw went right. Both mother and baby are safe, Kunda Pansare, staff nurse, GMCH
