A 46-year-old woman was found murdered in Gawli shivar-Aarapur area of Gangapur tehsil on Tuesday around 2 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Suman Kakade (46, Wadali, currently staying at Gavli Dhanora in Gangapur tehsil). Suman Kakade had been staying at her maternal home with her brother for the past few days. On Monday, she had left home with documents to travel to Lasur Station for completing KYC formalities under the Ladki Bahin scheme. However, she did not return home that night. Relatives searched for her but could not trace her whereabouts.

On Tuesday afternoon, while ploughing a field in Gut No. 89 in Gawli shivar area, a farmer noticed a woman’s body lying by the roadside. The assailants had allegedly smashed her face with a stone in an attempt to destroy evidence, making identification difficult. Shillegaon police reached the spot and confirmed her identity based on missing person records and other clues. Following information provided by police patil Badrinath Kere, police conducted a spot panchnama. After the post-mortem, the last rites were performed on Wednesday. A case of murder against unknown persons was being registered late Tuesday night based on a complaint by the victim’s relatives. Police teams have been formed to trace the accused.
