Suraj Devkate (35), who was allegedly run over by a car after being threatened, died during treatment in the early hours of Sunday after battling for life for five days. Satara police informed that a murder case has now been registered against the five arrested accused.
The incident occurred on the night of April 20 near Santaji police chowk on Paithan Road, when notorious offender Navnath alias Watya Bhai Mote allegedly rammed his car (MH-20-GE-9971) into Suraj. Earlier, the two had a dispute outside a beer bar on Patoda Road over monetary transactions and a heated exchange. Holding a grudge, the accused allegedly tried to kill Suraj by running him over. After Suraj fell in a pool of blood, the car was reportedly reversed over him again. When Suraj’s brother and others attempted to shift him to hospital, the accused and his associates allegedly threatened them and created terror, assaulting Charan and other friends. For nearly 20 minutes, the group allegedly obstructed timely medical aid. Suraj was undergoing treatment in the ICU but succumbed to injuries on Sunday. He is survived by his mother, wife and three children.
