A 35-year-old man was allegedly run over in an attempt to kill him following a financial dispute in Kanchanwadi on April 20. The accused also allegedly assaulted the victim’s brother and others and warned locals not to lift the injured man, obstructing medical aid.

Suraj Devkate (35, Dattnagar) was seriously injured. Initially registered as an accident, the case was later amended to include attempt to murder after his family staged a protest at the Satara police station on Thursday. The accused Navnath Mote alias Watya, Bhagwat Mote, Akash Waghmode, Abhishek Dahiwal and Gorakh Shinde (all Kanchanwadi residents) were booked following a complaint by Charan Khatke (35, Kashmirnagar). Khatke said he was travelling by autorickshaw around 10 pm when he heard a loud crash on the Hindustan Awas–Paithan road and found his cousin Suraj flung aside after being hit by a car. Navnath Mote allegedly stepped out of the vehicle. When Khatke and others tried to rush Suraj to hospital, the accused allegedly assaulted them and tried to stop the rescue. Suraj is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital. Police are investigating the case.
