Ahead of the Sydney Sixers' games against Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday, former Australian captain Mark Waugh said that he will drop Pakistani star batter Babar Azam from the current line-up in Big Bash League (BBL) 2026.

"At the moment, team is totally reliant on Steve Smith, at the moment I will bring Hughes or Silk & I will have to drop Babar Azam as he has not done enough," said Mark Waugh during his recent discussion ahead of the rain-affected knockout match.

Waugh shared his views on the current line-up of the Sydney Sixers and he believes the Sydney Sixers need to adjust their side if they want to win BBL 15.

"I think a bit of tough love. They need to rejiggle their batting because, at the moment, they are almost totally reliant on Steve Smith. Sam Curran got them out of jail in another game. He's gone. So at the moment, there aren't a lot of players in form," Waugh said.

The former Australian player said that he will bring Daniel Hughes or Jordan Silk in place of Babar Azam. "I don't think he's done enough at the top of the order. I know he's world-class, but when you're thinking about winning this tournament, so far he just hasn't delivered," Waugh added.

"So I'm thinking about a new opener. You can either have Moises Henriques to open, or bring in Daniel Hughes or Jordan Silk—one of those two heads. That's the way I'm thinking," Waugh explained.

During the Big Bash League match on Tuesday against Perth Scorchers, Babar failed to perform again, was stumped by Josh Inglis after facing two balls of Cooper Connolly in the first over.
