Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super GiantsStandings IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings boosted their Indian Premier League 2026 playoff hopes after registering a thrilling five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 53 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Chasing 204, Chennai Super Kings completed the chase in 19.2 overs, thanks largely to a sensational innings from Urvil Patel, who smashed a 13-ball half-century to equal the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history. Shivam Dube then finished the contest in style by hitting back-to-back sixes in the opening two deliveries of the final over.
The victory took CSK to 12 points from 11 matches and lifted them to fifth place in the IPL 2026 points table. Chennai moved ahead of Rajasthan Royals on net run rate, with both teams level on 12 points.
The win significantly improved Chennai’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs. If CSK win all three of their remaining league matches, they will secure a playoff berth comfortably with 18 points.
Even two wins from their remaining fixtures could be enough for Chennai to qualify, as 16 points has historically been considered a safe mark for playoff qualification in the IPL.
However, if CSK manage to win only one of their last three matches, they could be forced to depend on results from other teams and net run rate calculations.
Chennai Super Kings will next face Lucknow Super Giants again in the reverse fixture in Lucknow on May 15. They will then take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on May 18 before concluding their league campaign against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 21.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants were officially eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race after their eighth defeat of the season. With only six points from 11 matches and a net run rate of -0.907, LSG can no longer finish in the top four even if they win all of their remaining games.
