IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings suffered a major setback in the Indian Premier League 2026 playoff race after losing to Lucknow Super Giants in Match 59 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The loss left Chennai with 12 points from 12 matches, with six wins and six defeats so far this season. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side slipped to sixth place in the points table and are currently behind Rajasthan Royals on net run rate.
Despite the defeat, CSK are still mathematically alive in the playoff race. The five-time champions can still qualify for the playoffs if they win both of their remaining league matches.
Victories against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final two fixtures would take Chennai to 16 points, a total that could still be enough to secure a top-four finish.
However, CSK’s qualification hopes are no longer completely in their own hands. Even if they finish on 16 points, they are likely to depend on favorable results from other teams and net run rate to confirm a playoff berth.
Chennai had revived their campaign with three consecutive victories before the defeat against Lucknow halted their momentum at a crucial stage of the tournament.
