India National Cricket Team vs Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Match: India head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen in an intense conversation with opener Abhishek Sharma inside the team bus after the squad arrived in Chennai ahead of their crucial Super 8 match in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. As players boarded the bus outside Chennai airport on Monday, cameras captured Gambhir and the left-hander seated behind the driver, engaged in what appeared to be a serious discussion. The video later went viral on social media. Based on their body language, Gambhir appeared to be offering guidance and discussing possible technical or tactical adjustments with the opener. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate is also seen in the conversation. 

Abhishek, who impressed in T20 cricket last year with his attacking strokeplay, has struggled in the tournament. He began with three consecutive ducks and managed 15 off 12 balls against South Africa before being dismissed by Marco Jansen. Despite the poor run, the team management has continued to back the left-hander.  Speculation over Sanju Samson’s inclusion in the playing XI has grown, but Gambhir’s interaction with Abhishek suggested he remains in the coach’s plans.

India are seeking to recover from the 76-run defeat in their Super 8 opener. It was the team’s heaviest loss in World Cup history and their first defeat in 18 matches across ICC white-ball tournaments. Their previous loss in a global event also came in Ahmedabad, during the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. The loss raised concerns over the top order’s form at a crucial stage of the tournament.

India will next face Zimbabwe national cricket team in Chennai on February 26 before taking on West Indies cricket team in Kolkata on March 1. With the race for the semifinals intensifying, India will hope for a strong start at the top against Zimbabwe.
