India National Cricket Team vs South Africa National Cricket Team Match: South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first against India in a Super 8 Group 1 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, February 22, 2026. South Africa captain Aiden Markram said the pitch looked dry and favorable for batting.
“We’re going to bat first. Really a good wicket and a lot drier than what we have seen. The boys are looking in good touch and it’s a good place to be at the moment,” Markram said. He added that South Africa had made four changes from the previous game, bringing back Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav said his side would have also preferred to bat but was comfortable chasing. “We were also looking to bat first. Good occasion for everyone to come up and show what we have got. We have good energy on the field and we will take the result whatever comes our way,” he said. India fielded an unchanged lineup.
India advanced to the Super 8 stage after topping its group with four wins in four matches, finishing with a net run rate of 2.500. South Africa also progressed unbeaten, registering four wins and ending the group stage with a net run rate of 1.943.
