IPL 2026: Rohit Sharma is likely to return to the playing XI for Mumbai Indians (MI) in their upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, April 29. The former India captain has been sidelined since April 12 due to a right hamstring injury sustained during a home game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He subsequently missed matches against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the team opted against rushing his recovery.

According to the several media reports, Rohit has resumed gym training without discomfort, and the franchise’s medical staff is optimistic about his availability for the next fixture. He has been undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of team physios and is steadily regaining full fitness.

Rohit made a strong start to the season, scoring 137 runs in four matches, including a half-century, at a strike rate of 165. His return is expected to bolster Mumbai’s batting unit as the five-time champions look to revive their campaign.

The Hardik Pandya-led side currently placed eighth on the points table with two wins from seven matches, following a heavy 103-run defeat to CSK. As the second half of the season underway, the team faces a must-win situation to stay in contention for the playoffs.

Head coach Mahela Jayawardene emphasised the need for improved performances, stating the side must show greater consistency, focus and discipline in the remaining matches.

"I feel that if we play our best cricket, we have a great chance, but the confidence, the focus, and the discipline have to be there for the next seven games. Well, I don't know yet whether we need to win all seven, but obviously, starting off, I would like to do that - but let's see how the tournament goes," Jayawardene said after the CSK game.

The squad is currently on a short break and has travelled to Jamnagar for a team bonding session. Mumbai Indians are scheduled to resume training ahead of their crucial home clash, with Rohit’s expected return providing a timely boost.
