Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Standings: Chennai Super Kings suffered a major setback in the IPL 2026 playoff race after losing by five wickets to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday, May 18, 2026.
The defeat left Chennai Super Kings with 12 points from 13 matches and pushed the five-time champions to the brink of elimination. With Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad already securing qualification, only one playoff spot now remains available.
CSK’s final league-stage fixture will be against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 21, and the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side must win that match to stay alive in the race.
However, victory alone will not guarantee qualification for Chennai.
CSK will also need Punjab Kings to lose their final match against Lucknow Super Giants. In addition, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders cannot win both of their remaining matches.
If any of those results do not go in Chennai’s favour, CSK will be officially eliminated from IPL 2026.
Delhi Capitals also remain in contention with 12 points and one game left against Kolkata Knight Riders. A possible two-way or three-way tie between CSK, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals could bring Net Run Rate into play.
At present, Rajasthan Royals hold an advantage over Chennai and Delhi on Net Run Rate.
