IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians (MI) are once again without Rohit Sharma for match 33 of the Indian Premier League 2026  against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday,  April 23, 2026.

Rohit, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, was not included in the playing XI for the contest. The opener has already missed Mumbai’s previous two matches after retiring hurt during a run chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier in the season.

Despite returning to training ahead of the match, Rohit did not receive clearance to play. Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya confirmed at the toss that the team has opted to go unchanged from their previous match.

“We are gonna bowl first… Same team,” Pandya said.

Mumbai have experimented with multiple opening combinations in Rohit’s absence. The team previously used Quinton de Kock alongside Ryan Rickelton, before handing a debut to Danish Malewar in their last outing against Gujarat Titans.

Rohit’s recent record against Chennai Super Kings has been mixed. He has registered two ducks and two half-centuries in his last four innings against the side, including a century at the Wankhede Stadium in 2024 and an unbeaten 76 in the 2025 season.

Mumbai Indians, who are looking to build on their recent win over Gujarat Titans, will hope their current combination delivers again in the absence of their senior opener.

Toss Update

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first against CSK.
