Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Match IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians have opted not to include England all-rounder Will Jacks in their playing XI for match 33 of the Indian Premier League 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Jacks, who recently joined the squad after taking an extended break following a busy international schedule with England, was expected to feature in the high-profile encounter. However, MI opted to retain the same playing XI from their previous match.
The decision indicates that team combination and recent performances played a key role in the selection call. Overseas options Mitchell Santner and AM Ghazanfar, who delivered in the last game, were preferred as MI continued with a settled lineup.
Jacks had missed the first six matches of the season after requesting time off post international duties. His absence had already limited MI’s flexibility in the top order, and his availability ahead of the CSK fixture had raised expectations of an immediate return.
The 27-year-old is regarded as a versatile batter capable of operating across the top order, while also offering part-time off-spin.
He arrives in strong form after delivering several impactful performances for England at the T20 World Cup earlier this year. He scored 226 runs at an average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 176.56, while also taking nine wickets. Jacks was named in the ICC Team of the Tournament.
Despite being match-ready, Jacks will have to wait for his opportunity as MI look to build consistency with their current combination. The five-time champions are aiming to climb the points table after a mixed start to the season.
Jacks remains in contention for upcoming fixtures, with team management likely to reassess combinations based on conditions and opposition match-ups.
For now, however, the England all-rounder will have to wait for his debut appearance this season.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first against CSK.
