IPL 2026, CSK vs SRH Today Match: Questions surrounding MS Dhoni and his future in the Indian Premier League have intensified once again ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday, May 18, 2026.

With Chepauk set to host CSK’s final home fixture of the Indian Premier League 2026 league stage, speculation has increased over whether the legendary wicketkeeper-batter could be preparing for his farewell appearance at the venue. The buzz has grown further with several former CSK players, including Suresh Raina, expected to attend the match.

However, neither Dhoni nor the Chennai Super Kings management has made any official statement regarding his retirement from the IPL.

Amid the growing speculation, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hinted that Dhoni’s retirement may not happen this season and suggested that the former CSK captain could continue playing until IPL 2027.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra also added to the speculation with a brief social media post reading “definitely not” — a reference to Dhoni’s famous response during IPL 2020 when asked whether he had played his final match for Chennai Super Kings.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh recalled Dhoni’s earlier comments about wanting to play his final competitive match in Chennai. Harbhajan suggested that if Dhoni does not feature against SRH, it could increase the possibility of him returning for another IPL season.

Will MS Dhoni Play Against SRH?

According to reports, Dhoni is expected to be present at the stadium for the match, although his chances of featuring in the playing XI remain slim because of a thumb injury. The 44-year-old has not played a match in IPL 2026 after initially suffering a calf injury during the early phase of the tournament.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his availability, Dhoni was spotted during CSK’s training sessions ahead of the SRH clash and spent time batting in the nets at Chepauk earlier this week.

The final decision regarding Dhoni’s participation is expected to be taken before the toss when Chennai Super Kings announce their playing XI for the crucial encounter.
