IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have suffered another setback as David Payne has been ruled out of the remainder of Indian Premier League 2026 due to an ankle injury. The England fast bowler, who had joined the squad as a replacement for injured Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards, featured in two matches for the franchise.
The left-arm pacer made an immediate impact in the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, returning figures of 2 for 35 in three overs after coming in as an Impact Substitute. He followed it up with a wicketless outing against Kolkata Knight Riders, conceding 35 runs in two overs.
Payne’s exit is the latest in a string of injury setbacks for the franchise. Captain Pat Cummins is still recovering from a lumbar bone stress injury and has not returned to full fitness.England all-rounder Brydon Carse has already been ruled out of the season due to a hand injury and was replaced by Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are yet to announce a replacement for Payne as they look to manage their depleted pace attack.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently placed fourth on the points table with two wins from five matches.
