IPL  2026, MI vs PBKS Today Match: Mumbai Indians are without Rohit Sharma for Match 24 of the Indian Premier League 2026 against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 16, as the opener continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Rohit sustained the injury during MI’s previous match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he retired hurt after scoring 19 off 13 balls in the powerplay. He did not return for the remainder of the innings as Mumbai fell 18 runs short while chasing 240.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya confirmed at the toss that Rohit will miss the match and is expected to be sidelined for a couple of games as he continues his recovery. “Ro (Rohit) misses out from last game, he will take a couple of games,” Pandya said at toss.

Rohit had returned to training ahead of the fixture but only underwent a light session, including limited batting in the nets. The team management opted for a cautious approach, avoiding the risk of aggravating the injury during a long tournament.

Rohit has been Mumbai’s leading run-scorer in IPL 2026 so far, with 137 runs in four matches at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of over 165.  His standout knock came in the opener against Kolkata, where he scored 78 off 38 balls.

Rohit’s absence comes at a crucial time for Mumbai Indians, who have lost three consecutive matches since their opening win over Kolkata Knight Riders and are currently placed near the bottom of the points table. In contrast, Punjab Kings enter the contest unbeaten, adding further pressure on Mumbai. The team will hope for his return in the coming matches as they look to revive their campaign.
