IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are set to be without their regular captain Pat Cummins once again for their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, as the Australian pacer is yet to receive medical clearance following a back injury.

Cummins has not featured in IPL 2026 so far after suffering a lumbar stress injury during Australia’s tour of the West Indies in July last year. Although he made a brief return during the 2025–26 Ashes, the injury resurfaced, ruling him out of competitive cricket, including the T20 World Cup 2026.

The 31-year-old was initially part of the SRH camp at the start of the season but later returned to Australia for a final assessment under the supervision of Cricket Australia. His availability depends on clearing the fitness test and obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board.
With the clearance process still underway, Cummins is unlikely to feature in tonight’s match against CSK. Media reports suggest that he could rejoin the SRH squad after April 18 if he successfully passes the assessment. However, no official confirmation has been provided regarding his exact return date.
His absence has been a notable setback for SRH, particularly in the bowling department, which has struggled to defend big totals despite strong performances from the batting unit. However, the emergence of young pacers like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain has provided a boost.
In his absence, Ishan Kishan has been leading the side, and SRH will look to build on their recent victory over Rajasthan Royals when they face CSK in a crucial encounter.
While fans continue to await clarity on Cummins’ return, all indications suggest that his comeback is likely to be in the latter half of the tournament rather than in the immediate fixture.
