IPL 2026, MI vs PBKS Today Match: Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma remains doubtful for Match 24 of the Indian Premier League 2026 against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 16, 2026, due to a hamstring injury. Rohit sustained the injury during Mumbai’s previous match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he was forced to retire hurt after scoring 19 in the powerplay. The 38-year-old appeared to tweak his hamstring while batting fluently at the top of the order. He showed visible discomfort and did not return to the field. Mumbai Indians eventually lost the match, and Rohit’s injury has since become a major talking point ahead of the PBKS clash.

There were encouraging signs ahead of today's clash as Rohit Sharma returned to training after missing an earlier session, although he kept his workload light. He was seen jogging and facing throwdowns for a short duration, but did not take part in a high-intensity session.

As things stand, Rohit has not been officially ruled out, but his participation remains doubtful. A final decision is expected closer to toss following a medical assessment. There is a possibility that he could be used as an Impact Player if declared fit, allowing him to contribute with the bat without fielding duties.

If Rohit misses out, Mumbai Indians may look to reshuffle their top order. Quinton de Kock is a potential option at the top of the order alongside Ryan Rickelton, though that would require balancing the overseas combination. The responsibility in the batting unit would then fall on Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to anchor the innings.

Rohit has been Mumbai’s leading run-scorer this season, with 137 runs in four matches, including a top score of 78. He also became the first player to score 6,000 runs for the franchise.
