India National Cricket Team vs South Africa National Cricket Team Match: Jasprit Bumrah became India’s highest wicket-taker in Men’s T20 World Cup history during the Super 8 match against South Africa on Sunday, February 22,2026. Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Bumrah returned figures of 3 for 15 in four overs in India’s opening Super 8 fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. With those three wickets, he went past Ravichandran Ashwin’s tally of 32 wickets and now has 33 wickets from 22 matches in the tournament.

Ashwin had taken 32 wickets in 24 matches for India in the T20 World Cup. Bumrah achieved the milestone in two fewer games.

Among Indian bowlers in the Men’s T20 World Cup, Arshdeep Singh also has 32 wickets from 18 matches, while Hardik Pandya has 29 wickets from 29 matches. Ravindra Jadeja has claimed 22 wickets in 30 matches and Axar Patel has 18 from 16 games.

Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and former all-rounder Irfan Pathan picked up 16 wickets each in the tournament. Ashish Nehra took 15 wickets in 10 matches, while RP Singh finished with 14 wickets from nine games.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan remains the leading wicket-taker in Men’s T20 World Cup history. He has taken 50 wickets in 43 matches between 2007 and 2024.

He is followed by Australia’s Adam Zampa with 44 wickets and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan with 43. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga has taken 40 wickets, while Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and England’s Adil Rashid have 39 wickets each.

Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga has 38 wickets in the tournament, while South Africa’s Anrich Nortje has 37. Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal and New Zealand’s Tim Southee have taken 36 wickets each in the competition.
