Coming into the match, the clash was being seen as a virtual knockout game for Lucknow Super Giants. A defeat would have officially eliminated Rishabh Pant’s side from the playoff race. However, the crucial win has helped LSG stay mathematically alive in the competition.
With the victory, LSG moved to six points from 10 matches. They still remain at the bottom half of the IPL 2026 points table, but they now have four league-stage games remaining. If they manage to win all four matches, they can finish with a maximum of 14 points.
Although 14 points may not guarantee qualification for the playoffs, LSG are still in contention depending on results of other teams and Net Run Rate (NRR). In IPL history, teams have qualified with 14 points in rare scenarios when multiple sides finished level on points.
LSG had endured a disappointing campaign before the RCB clash, losing seven of their first nine matches. After securing consecutive wins against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders earlier in the season, they suffered defeats against Gujarat Titans, RCB, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, KKR in the Super Over, and Mumbai Indians.
The win over defending champions RCB has now given Lucknow a late opportunity to revive their season. However, Rishabh Pant & Co. can no longer afford another defeat, as even one more loss could end their hopes of reaching the top four.
