Bangladesh National Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Match: Shaheen Afridi scripted history on Friday by becoming the first Pakistan bowler to take 100 wickets in ICC World Test Championship history during the opening Test against the Bangladesh national cricket team in Dhaka. The milestone came at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium when Shaheen dismissed Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy on the very first ball of the seventh over.

Joy, who scored 8 runs from 19 deliveries, edged the ball behind to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, giving Shaheen his landmark wicket in World Test Championship cricket.

Before the start of the Test, the left-arm pacer had 99 wickets from 28 WTC matches. He completed the century mark in his 29th appearance in the competition.

Shaheen now sits at the top of Pakistan’s all-time wicket-taking list in the World Test Championship. Spinner Noman Ali follows him with 89 wickets, while Sajid Khan occupies the third spot with 63 wickets.

The Pakistan speedster has been one of the team’s most consistent performers in the WTC era and owns best bowling figures of 6/51 in the tournament so far.

Overall, the record for most wickets in World Test Championship history belongs to Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who has claimed 224 wickets in 55 matches.

Australia captain Pat Cummins is second on the all-time list with 222 wickets, while fellow Australian pacer Mitchell Starc follows closely with 221 wickets.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remains the leading Asian wicket-taker in WTC history with 195 wickets in 41 matches. India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is second among Asian bowlers with 185 wickets in 42 matches.

Shaheen’s achievement came during an important phase of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle as Pakistan look to strengthen their position in the standings with a strong performance against Bangladesh.
