The Maharashtra School Education Department has commenced the admission process for 25% of reserved seats under the 'Right to Education' (RTE) on January 14, 2025. The application process is being conducted on the official website at student.maharashtra.gov.in, and will remain open until January 27, 2025. Interested parents submit their application form online before the due date.

According to a government notification, under the 'Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009,' children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections have the right to admission in self-financing schools, unaided schools, police welfare schools, and municipal schools.

Data from the RTE portal indicates that 8,849 schools across the state have registered for the admission process, with a total of 1,08,961 seats available. Pune district leads with 951 schools participating, collectively offering 18,451 seats for RTE admissions this year, while South Mumbai have a total of 255 schools with 4685 seats and in Mumbai suburbs, there are a total of 72 schools with 1368 seats.

The registration process for schools began on 18 December, with the initial deadline set for 31 December. However, due to fewer-than-expected registrations, the deadline was extended to 4 January. Under the RTE provisions, private schools provide free education to students from Class 1 to Class 8, with the state education department reimbursing their fees.

Key Points Regarding the Admission Process:

Only children whose parents' annual income is less than Rs 1 lakh are eligible under the economically weaker section category.

Applicants must select 10 schools in the application form.

The distance from the applicant's home to the school must be measured using Google Maps and accurately entered in the application.

It is strongly recommended to complete the application before the deadline to avoid potential internet or technical issues.

Applicants must provide accurate details, including their home address, birth certificate, income certificate, disability certificate (if applicable), and caste certificate (if required).

Children who have already secured admission under RTE are not eligible to apply again.

Providing false information may result in the disqualification of an already admitted child.

Only one application should be submitted at a time.

Parents and guardians are urged to follow these guidelines carefully to ensure a smooth and successful application process.
