Veteran singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Asha Bhosle has passed away. She breathed her last at the age of 92. Her last rites will be held with full state honours. Funeral to take place at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4 PM.  Asha Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Initially, it was reported that she was admitted to the hospital because of cardiac arrest, but later her family clarified and stated she was suffering from a chest infection. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, later shared a health update and requested privacy for the family during this time. Taking to social media, Zanai clarified that the legendary singer has been hospitalised due to a chest infection and extreme exhaustion.

Asha Bhosle is one of India’s most celebrated and versatile playback singers, whose voice has defined generations of Hindi cinema and beyond. Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, she began her career at a young age following the death of her father. Over the decades, she built an extraordinary legacy, recording thousands of songs in multiple languages. Known for her adaptability, she effortlessly moved between classical, pop, cabaret, ghazals, and folk music, earning her a unique place in Indian music history alongside her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar.

Asha Bhosle’s career took off in the 1950s and 1960s when she collaborated with renowned composers like O. P. Nayyar and R. D. Burman. She delivered unforgettable songs such as Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Dum Maro Dum, Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, and In Aankhon Ki Masti. These songs not only topped charts but also showcased her incredible range and emotional depth, making her a favorite among music lovers across generations.

Throughout her illustrious journey, Asha Bhosle lent her voice to numerous iconic films, including Teesri Manzil, Umrao Jaan, Caravan, and Rangeela. Her work in these films contributed significantly to their success and left a lasting cultural impact. With multiple national and international awards, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, she remains an enduring symbol of musical excellence. Even today, her songs continue to resonate, reflecting a timeless charm that transcends generations.
