Perin Malde Opens Up On How A Childhood Talk With Anupam Kher Sparked His Acting Dream: 'I Was Just 5 Years Old'
Perin Malde is working very hard to find his footing in the showbiz, but he started acting a long time ago, before most people would expect. Recently seen with Akshay Kumar in Bhooth Bangla, the actor's story goes back to a surprising moment from his childhood.
Looking back, Perin shared that his first clear memory of wanting to act dates back to 2005, when he was just five years old. He had appeared on a children’s talk show hosted by Anupam Kher, and what seemed like a casual interaction ended up leaving a lasting impact on him.
“My very first memory of wanting to become an actor is when I was 5 years old. In 2005, Mr Anupam Kher used to do this Sunday morning talk show on Zee where he would have the funniest conversations with kids. I somehow ended up there as a participant,” he recalled.
Perin went on to describe how that conversation shaped his thinking at the time. “During the entire shoot, unlike other kids, I was just super confident in front of the camera. We were having a lovely conversation about life of a kid and what I would want to do in life. He asked me, ‘What do you want to become once you grow up?’ And I don't know why, my first instinct, without a second thought was to become an actor.”
What followed was a response only a child could give. “And very naturally he asked me why. As a kid I was in awe of the concept of award shows. So I told him, because actors get awards. He asked, ‘Why do you want an award?’ Since a lot of awards looked shiny and golden, 5 year old me was under the assumption that awards are made of Gold.”
Despite the innocence of that answer, something about that moment stayed with him. “I think that's the first time I ever admitted that I want to become an actor, even my parents were surprised. I consider myself extremely lucky that very early on in life I realised this is something that I want to pursue as a profession.”
Crediting Kher for indirectly starting his acting career, Perin added, “Surprised by how confident I was on camera - After the show, Anupam sir spoke to my parents and advised them that I should give professional acting a shot. I can say that in a way he’s the one who started my acting career.”
Over the years, that early instinct only grew stronger. “I realised that a shooting set is my happy place. Be it on either side of the camera, in front of it or behind it. I just love being on a set, and it is something that just comes to me naturally. Acting, the entire process of filmmaking, is my true habitat.”
From a child’s simple dream to a growing career, Perin’s journey reflects how even the smallest moments can quietly shape one’s path.
