Vipul Amrutlal Shah Highlights How Real Court Cases Are Inspiration Behind The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond

Vipul Amrutlal Shah, one of Indian cinema’s most acclaimed filmmakers and producers, has delivered several cult and impactful films over the years. With The Kerala Story, he showcased a fearless storytelling approach that turned the film into a massive success, sparking nationwide conversations and shedding light on a deeply disturbing real-life issue. Now, Shah is gearing up to take the narrative forward with The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond.

Carrying an intense blend of fear, rage, and hard-hitting truth, the recently released teaser hints at a far more powerful and layered sequel. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Kamakhya Narayan Singh, the film draws inspiration from real incidents documented within the Indian legal system, transforming them into a gripping cinematic narrative. Vipul Amrutlal Shah revealed that the team spent several months conducting detailed and painstaking research to ensure the story authentically presents the reality it aims to highlight.

Vipul Shah shared that while the first film highlighted Indian women being radicalised into ISIS, The Kerala Story 2 explores exploitation within India, drawing from three key narratives inspired by multiple real-life court cases. He shared, “When we make a film like The Kerala Story: Goes Beyond, we wanted it to become more representative of our all-India situation. And hence, the three stories that we selected, we could not just tell their stories. We have taken many incidents from other girls' lives and made them part of their stories. As a result, it's a story of three girls, but it also has a reflection of a lot of other stories in it.”

He further emphasised that the film was not limited to theoretical research, as the team invested significant time in fieldwork and on-ground investigation to shape the film’s narrative. “We have done our research for almost six to seven months. We have met various victims. We've travelled to various parts of the country to meet victims, their parents, and people in and around. We've gone through various court orders, police, and FIRs. So a lot of research has been done. A lot of media articles became our source from which we went and chased the victims. So it was extensive research that allowed us to collect the right information. And that is how the film has been made, shared Vipul Amrutlal Shah.

Following the massive impact of The Kerala Story, which shook audiences nationwide with its bold narrative, the sequel promises to push boundaries even further, going beyond comfort, beyond silence, and beyond denial. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, The Kerala Story 2- Goes Beyond is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, co-produced by Aashin A Shah under the banner Sunshine Pictures. The film is slated to release in cinemas on 27th February, 2026.
