The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic was confirmed to have spread to India on 30 January 2020 from China. There have since been a total of 174 confirmed cases in the country.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday reiterated his plea to the public to not step out of their homes unnecessarily.

"Work from home should be the policy.... we have the example of China before us... they were the first to suffer, they were the first to come out," Thackeray said in his address to the state.

Social distancing measures as a preventive strategy have been proposed for implementation. These measures are a preventive step to contain Covid-19.

Social distancing is a set of nonpharmaceutical infection control actions intended to stop or slow down the spread of a contagious disease.
