Walking is good for brain, heart and overall health, it is one of the most effective ways to reduce weight. Due to busy schedule, we have very less time to look at ourself.  Walking for a short while after a meal aids in better digestion. Their are numerous benefits of walking, such as weight loss, improved digestion, enhanced blood circulation, and a healthy heart. However, many people are unaware that walking can also help reduce the risk of mortality.

Let's find out how.

Various studies regarding walking and its benefits are constantly emerging. Health experts frequently discuss different walking techniques and their specific effects on the human body. "Brisk walking" is one such significant form of walking that has been the subject of much discussion recently.

A recent report by Study  finds stated that engaging in brisk walking for just 15 minutes a day can reduce the risk of mortality by nearly 20 percent. This research was conducted by researchers at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The objective of the study was to determine the extent to which daily physical activity impacts health particularly in areas where access to expensive gyms or fitness apps is not easily available.

How is Brisk Walking Beneficial?

Researchers monitored approximately 79,856 individuals aged 40 to 79 between the years 2002 and 2022. During the course of the study, 26,862 participants passed away. However, a significantly lower mortality rate was observed among those who walked briskly for at least 15 minutes every day. In other words, the study revealed that walking briskly for just 15 minutes a day reduces the mortality rate by nearly 20 percent, whereas walking slowly for more than three hours reduces the mortality rate by only 4 percent. Health benefits are maximized when you walk briskly even if only for a short duration. Similarly, activities such as climbing stairs, walking rapidly, or engaging in any task that significantly elevates your heart rate prove to be beneficial. Walking slowly, on the other hand, yields very little benefit.

Brisk walking is shown to significantly reduce mortality, especially from heart disease, making it a beneficial fitness activity for all ages. It improves cardiovascular health, reduces inflammation, and helps manage weight and blood pressure. While the observational nature of the study prevents definitive causal conclusions, the takeaway is clear: daily brisk walking can increase lifespan.
