Body sweat is very natural as it is process to regulate body temperature and does not have a specific odor. However, if you experience a strong body odor along with sweating, itching, or a burning sensation on the skin, it's not advisable to ignore it. This problem can be related to personal hygiene, skin conditions, fungal infections, or lifestyle.
Body odor is mainly caused by bacteria on the skin. When you sweat, it creates moisture, and bacteria multiply rapidly in these damp areas. Especially in areas like the armpits, groin, thighs, toes, and around the navel, where air circulation is limited, both odor and itching problems worsen. Wearing wet clothes for extended periods, tight clothing, synthetic fabrics, and sweat drying on the body constantly can aggravate the problem.
Sometimes, a strong body odor can be a symptom of a fungal or bacterial infection. In such cases, itching, redness, rashes, peeling skin, or a whitish layer may be visible. Diabetes, obesity, hormonal changes, excessive stress, and a weakened immune system can also exacerbate this problem.
The most important thing to control this problem is hygiene. It is essential to bathe daily and keep sweaty areas clean and dry. Use a mild, skin-friendly soap during bathing. After bathing, dry your skin completely before putting on clothes, as damp skin increases the risk of fungal growth.
Clothing choices are also very important. Wear cotton and loose-fitting clothes to allow the skin to breathe. Tight jeans, synthetic clothes, or innerwear that remain wet for extended periods should be changed immediately. Socks should be changed daily, and the feet should be kept clean and dry. As a home remedy, bathing with neem water, applying its juice to the itchy area, or using aloe vera or coconut oil can provide relief. Sometimes, applying a pinch of turmeric mixed with coconut oil can help reduce fungal infections. However, if there is severe itching, burning, or open sores, one should not rely solely on home remedies.

Making changes to your diet is also helpful. Very spicy, pungent, or oily foods, as well as excessive consumption of onions, garlic, and alcohol, can increase body odor. Drinking plenty of water and consuming fruits, vegetables, and fiber-rich foods helps in detoxifying the body.
