Israel Strikes Tehran Again After Joint US Operation Kills Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Multiple explosions rocked Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Sunday as Israeli forces launched fresh strikes against what they described as the country’s “terror regime.” The developments came just a day after Israel and the United States carried out a coordinated assault that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The renewed military action has significantly escalated tensions in the region, with both sides issuing strong statements. The situation remains volatile as global attention turns to the unfolding crisis and its potential impact across the Middle East.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said it was targeting key assets linked to the Iranian regime in the heart of Tehran. The military noted that over the past day, the Israeli Air Force had conducted extensive air operations aimed at achieving aerial superiority and clearing the way toward the capital. The operations were described as large-scale and strategic in nature. Israeli officials maintained that the strikes were part of a broader effort to weaken Iran’s military infrastructure and respond decisively to ongoing hostilities.
According to a report by the Associated Press, explosions were heard in northern Tehran, particularly in an area that houses the country’s police headquarters and the state television broadcaster. Visuals circulating online showed a powerful blast sending thick plumes of smoke rising from a building into the sky. The footage captured the immediate aftermath of the explosion, highlighting the scale of the impact. Authorities have not yet released detailed information about casualties or the extent of structural damage caused by the blasts.

The latest strikes followed Iran’s vow to avenge Khamenei’s death. Tehran reportedly launched missiles across parts of the Middle East, with several said to have struck Gulf regions including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Bahrain. In a message posted on Telegram, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that what it called the fiercest offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces was imminent. It added that “occupied territories” and American bases in the region would be targeted.
Saturday’s joint US-Israeli air campaign, named ‘Operation Epic Fury,’ followed stalled nuclear negotiations and allegations that Iran had resumed sensitive nuclear activities. The coordinated strikes targeted multiple cities across Iran, including Tehran. Iranian media reported that Khamenei was killed inside his residential compound, and claimed that along with him, his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter also died. Reports further stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was shown a photograph of Khamenei’s body after the strike.
