Florida authorities declared a level 2 mass casualty incident after an explosion, possibly in a boat in Miami, injured at least 15 people near Haulover Sandbar on Saturday afternoon, May 9.
After receiving the information, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rescue teams responded to a call about a potential boat explosion at around 1 pm on Saturday. According to a Miami Herald report, the suspected blast took place near the sandbar at Haulover Beach, in Biscayne Bay, one of South Florida's busiest boating and party destinations.

More than 25 units of firefighters reached the spot and responded to the call. It is unknown if there are any fatalities or what may have caused the potential explosion. The audio dispatch reported multiple burn victims, with some being found in the water.
Lifeboats and an air unit is being used by authorities. Authorities have not confirmed if a boat exploded. But in an interview with the Miami Herald, one person who was on the vessel blamed a gas leak, Reuters reported. According to preliminary information shared by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a charter boat was near the sandbar when an explosion occurred onboard.
