Mexico Mall Fire: At Least 5 Killed, Over 12 Injured in Massive Blaze at Plaza Fiesta Las Palmas Shopping Mall in Los Mochis

At least five people were killed, and 12 others were injured in a massive fire that broke out at Plaza Fiesta Las Palmas shopping mall in Los Mochis, Mexico on Thursday, May 8. The blaze was reported at around 2.30 pm (US local time), after which emergency crews reached the scene and began firefighting operations. Till 4.50 pm, the fire was still out of control.

Officials have confirmed to local outlet Línea Directa Portal that at least five people were killed in the fire. The injuries rose due to the trapping of people in several areas of the mall. It was not immediately clear how many people were still inside or whether search operations were ongoing.

A large plume of smoke could be seen rising from the mall as emergency crews worked to extinguish the flames. Drone video showed heavy fire across a large section of the building.

At least 12 people were given first aid on the spot and later shifted to nearby medical facilities, according to the mayor, quoted by BNO News. Other people were transported to the nearby hospital for treatment of their burn injuries, but the exact number of injured is still unknown.
