At least three people were killed and 12 others were hospitalised after a huge tornado struck Union City, Michigan on Friday night, March 6. Powerful storms ripped off the roof of a home improvement store, resulting in the storage materials flying and hitting trees and other structures. According to reports, a warning sounded in the southern part of Michigan.
According to the Branch County Sheriff’s office, 12 injured and three people died in a tornado incident which occurred in the Union City area.

The sheriff’s office in St Joseph county, next to the Indiana border, told residents to “seek shelter immediately” after confirmed reports of a tornado touching down in Union City at around 4.40 pm, a severe thunderstorm watch and possible winds more than 60mph.
“Citizens should anticipate power outages, closed roadways and/or neighborhoods and cellular/internet interruptions,” the Michigan state police said in a social media post.
Public Message from the St. Joseph County Sheriff: "We are asking everyone to please stay away from the north end of St. Joseph County until further notice. Emergency personnel are currently responding to an active situation in that area, and it is critical that our firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS, and other emergency workers have clear access to do their jobs safely and effectively."

The state activated its emergency operations centre as officials responded to serious wind damage and reports of injuries in multiple south-west Michigan counties.
