Nepal Bus Accident: 14 Killed as Passenger Bus with 40 Indians Onboard Plunges Into Marsyangdi River in Tanahun (Watch Video)

At least 14 passengers died as a bus carrying 50 passengers, including 40 Indians onboard, plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal's Tanahun district on Friday, August 23. 

According to the Spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, at least 14 bodies have been recovered from the site of the accident.  "14 bodies retrieved from the site of the bus accident," Spokesperson Kumar Neupane said. ANI quoted DSP Deepkumar Raya as saying, "The bus bearing number plate UP FT 7623 plunged into the river and is lying on the bank of the river." The incident took place when the bus was travelling from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

According to reports, the bus from Uttar Pradesh, which was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu, overturned on the highway and rolled towards a fast-flowing river, eventually stopping on the rocky bank. The top part of the bus was ripped off, but the wreckage did not plunge into the Marsyangdi River.

A team from Nepal Disaster Management Training School and 45 police personnel reached the accident spot, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Madhav Paudel and joined the rescue operation with the locals.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner has said that efforts are underway to establish contact to find out if anyone from the state is involved in it.  More details are awaited.
