Agustín Escobar, the CEO of Siemens and President of Siemens Mobility Southwest Europe, was killed along with his family—including his wife and their three children—on Thursday, April 10, in a tragic helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River. The sixth fatality in the crash was the helicopter pilot, whose identity has not yet been released. According to a report by the New York Post, four passengers died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Netizens have shared photos of the family killed in the tragic crash. As reported by Hindustan Times, the children were of middle school age or younger. In one shared photo, the family of five can be seen posing in front of the Bell 206L-4 Long Ranger IV helicopter.

Who Was Agustín Escobar?

Agustín Escobar had been serving as CEO of Siemens Mobility Southwest Europe since December 2022. He completed a certified course in industrial engineering from Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid and brought with him over 25 years of international experience in the energy and transportation sectors, leading teams across the United States, Latin America, and Spain.

Escobar held several key leadership positions within Siemens. From 2014 to 2018, he served as CEO of the Energy Management Division and the Infrastructure & Cities Sector in Latin America. Prior to that, he was CEO of the Infrastructure & Cities Sector from 2012 to 2014.

Earlier, he worked as Corporate Director of Strategy and International Business Development for Siemens in North America. He also held various roles in Spain from 1998 to 2010, primarily in the energy sector. Escobar and his family had recently travelled to New York from Barcelona for a vacation. Tragically, shortly after takeoff, their helicopter crashed into the Hudson River near Manhattan’s Pier 40.
