US Has Agreed To Release Frozen Iranian Assets in Qatar, Other Banks, Says Iranian Source

The US had agreed to release Iranian frozen assets in Qatar and other foreign banks, an Iranian source told the news agency Reuters on Saturday, April 11. The deal has been finalised during talks in Pakistan's Islamabad, as reports say the sign of "seriousness" was welcomed by Tehran.

Meanwhile, Washington has not made any official comment regarding unfreezing Iran's assets and financial institutions in Qatar. Source who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter told Reuters that unfreezing the assets was "directly linked to ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz"

However, the source has not given any value for the Iranian assets. Reuters quotes a second source saying the US had agreed to release  $6 billion of frozen Iranian funds held by Qatar.
