Lucknow, Aug 30 In a shocking incident, a woman constable in her uniform was hit on her face with a rod after she objected to a youth passing lewd remarks at her.

The incident took place on Sunday evening and the local residents of the Aliganj locality chased the youth, who was arrested.

The police said that Prabhat Kumar of Aliganj had been booked for murder attempt, eve teasing and voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a public servant to deter her from duty.

The woman constable was on duty in pink patrolling a wing formed to prevent incidents of crime against girls/women.

The profusely bleeding woman constable was later admitted to a hospital.

The police said the accused was the son of an advocate. The woman constable lives in the same locality on rent.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), North Zone, Prachi Singh, said, "The woman constable dressed in police uniform was patrolling in the area when the miscreant spotted her and passed lewd comments on her. Irked over this, the woman constable confronted him and this infuriated him to such an extent that he attacked her with an iron rod."

She said the accused was being interrogated at the police station.
