Chaitra Navratri 2026: Top 5 Delicious Sattvik Recipes to Enjoy While Fasting

Chaitra Navratri is a sacred nine‑day Hindu festival that begins in the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra, dedicated to worshipping the nine forms of Goddess Durga with devotion and faith. It marks spiritual renewal and the victory of good over evil, and devotees believe that sincere fasting and prayer during these days invite the Goddess’s blessings for peace, prosperity, and fulfilment of wishes. During the fast, people observe purity by abstaining from meat, alcohol, grains, onions, garlic, and tamasic foods, choosing sattvik (pure) ingredients instead. Fasting is also seen as a way to cleanse the body and focus the mind on devotion and discipline.

Puja Prasad, and 5 Fasting Foods
During Chaitra Navratri, devotees perform puja rituals early each morning by cleaning the prayer area, placing a kalash (holy pot), chanting hymns, offering flowers, lighting incense and diyas, and presenting prasad (food offerings like sweets, fruits, and sattvik dishes) to Goddess Durga with devotion and reverence. After prayer and aarti, this prasad is distributed among family members and guests as a sacred blessing.
