Curry leaves are commonly used in most Indian recipes and easily found in kitchens. Curry leaves enhance the taste of the dish. Without curry leaves, dishes like dal, vegetables, or any spicy food simply don't taste the same. But did you know that curry leaves are not only beneficial in cooking but also in many other ways. Ayurveda gives special importance to the consumption of curry leaves. The alkaloids present in them help in reducing body fat. Besides this, it also helps in improving metabolism. You can use curry leaves in your diet in many ways.

According to a report by the National Library of Medicine, the alkaloid called Mahanimbine present in curry leaves exhibits anti-obesity properties. These components help in reducing lipid levels in the body and controlling weight gain caused by a high-fat diet. Consuming curry leaves helps in maintaining balanced cholesterol levels in the body. This improves metabolism and makes weight loss easier. According to a study in Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, the phenolics in curry leaves reduce oxidative stress in the body. Reduced stress increases the body's basal metabolic rate, which is essential for burning calories. 

Curry Leaf Tea or Decoction

Curry leaf tea is considered most effective for weight loss. To make this, wash 10 to 12 curry leaves and boil them in a glass of water. Let it boil until the water is reduced to half. Add a little honey and lemon juice and drink it on an empty stomach in the morning. This helps in flushing out toxins from the body. Besides this, it also helps in faster digestion.

Chewing the Leaves

If you don't have time to make tea, chew 5 to 7 fresh and tender leaves thoroughly every morning on an empty stomach. Chewing the leaves allows their nutrients to mix directly with saliva. This helps in controlling blood sugar levels and suppresses appetite.

Curry leaves and buttermilk

After lunch, drink buttermilk mixed with crushed or finely ground curry leaves. Both curry leaves and buttermilk are excellent for digestion. This mixture also helps in reducing excess body fat.
