Eid-al-Fitr is a day of celebration and happiness, observed at the end of the month of Ramadan. The festival is celebrated based on the sighting of the Shawwal moon, marking the conclusion of Ramadan, so its date varies each year. Will Eid 2025 be celebrated in India on March 31 or April 1? The answer depends on whether the crescent moon is visible.

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, and months are determined by moon sightings. Ramadan lasts for either 29 or 30 days, and at its conclusion, the sighting of the Shawwal moon (the tenth month of the Islamic calendar) marks the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr the following day.

Ramadan in India began on March 2, based on moon sightings. According to the Islamic calendar, Eid is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, immediately after Ramadan. If the Shawwal moon is sighted on the night of March 30, Eid will be celebrated on March 31. However, if the moon is not visible that night, Ramadan will complete 30 days, and Eid will be celebrated on April 1.

To determine the exact date of Eid, Islamic scholars and religious institutions announce moon sightings across the country. Reports of moon sightings are received from various places in India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and other Muslim countries. Typically, Saudi Arabia sights the moon a day earlier, leading to Eid being celebrated there one day before India.
