As summer sets in, many people find it difficult to cope without an air conditioner. The use of ACs is observed to be on the rise everywhere be it at home, in the office, or in vehicles. Some individuals even spend several hours of their day exclusively in air-conditioned environments. ACs provide relief from the scorching heat, reduce fatigue while working, and ensure a restful night's sleep. However, when anything is used in excess, adverse effects inevitably begin to manifest. The same applies to air conditioning; constantly remaining in a cold environment can have various repercussions on the body and overall health

Air conditioning reduces the moisture content in the air. Consequently, many people experience issues such as dry skin, chapped lips, or burning sensations in the eyes. For some, prolonged exposure to air conditioning triggers headaches or body aches. The body loses its acclimatization to natural temperatures, leading to discomfort when stepping out into the hot outdoor air. It is particularly crucial for young children, the elderly, and individuals suffering from allergies or asthma to exercise extra caution in this regard.

If AC filters are not cleaned regularly, dust, mold, and germs can circulate into the air. Breathing such air increases the likelihood of developing respiratory issues. Frequent exposure to air conditioning is often a contributing factor behind symptoms such as hoarseness, sneezing, the common cold, or a persistent cough. Some individuals experience joint pain or muscle stiffness due to the excessively cold environment. Body aches caused by air conditioning can affect people of any age group. Therefore, it is advisable to minimize the use of air conditioning.

However, this does not imply that one should refrain from using an AC altogether. When used correctly, the adverse effects associated with air conditioning can be effectively avoided. Rather than setting the temperature to a very low level, it is considered more appropriate to maintain it within a moderate range typically between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.

An excessively cold environment can subject the body to sudden and abrupt changes. Furthermore, instead of remaining seated in an air-conditioned space throughout the day, it is essential to periodically step out to breathe in some natural air. Avoid sitting in a very cold air-conditioned environment immediately after coming in from the heat. Allow your body a few minutes to adjust to the normal temperature. Furthermore, regular cleaning and servicing of the AC unit ensure that the air remains clean, which helps reduce health-related issues.
