History and Significance 

International Women's Day was established by the United Nations in 1975, although it was first celebrated on March 19, 1911, in the U.S. and several European countries.

The concept of International Women's Day originated from the 1908 labor movement, during which many women garment workers in New York marched for better pay, shorter working hours, and voting rights, led by the Socialist Party of America.This declaration significantly advanced the women's rights agenda, focusing on legal protections, access to services, youth engagement, and challenging outdated social norms and stereotypes.

In 2025, March 8 falls on a Saturday, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—an influential and widely supported blueprint for women's and girls' rights globally.
