If you work a 9-to-5 job, Bollywood actor Milind Soman believes you need to rethink your daily routine. Speaking recently on the Naturen podcast, he warned that sitting in one place for long hours can seriously affect your health. According to him, even if you make it a point to get up every half hour, it may not be enough if you are otherwise inactive. He suggests consciously adding small movements to your day. One simple trick he recommends is not keeping your water bottle on your desk. When you feel thirsty, you should walk to the water filter instead. This small habit ensures that you get up and move instead of remaining seated for hours. Even brief walks can make a meaningful difference to your overall well-being.

Soman also advises making better use of your lunch break. If you take a one-hour break, try dedicating at least one minute to physical activity. Simple exercises like push-ups, spot marching, or any quick movement can help activate your muscles. These short bursts of exercise may seem minor, but they can significantly reduce the harmful effects of prolonged sitting. Regular movement improves blood circulation and prevents stiffness that often comes with desk jobs. Incorporating such micro-activities into your routine can gradually improve your stamina and energy levels throughout the day.

He further stressed that posture is equally important for maintaining good health. Sitting in a bent or incorrect position for extended periods can put pressure on the spine and strain the neck and shoulder muscles. Your feet should rest flat on the ground, and your computer screen must be positioned at eye level to avoid unnecessary stress on your body. In any situation, remaining seated for too long is not advisable. Taking small breaks to stand, stretch, or walk helps reduce physical strain, supports better blood flow, and prevents long-term muscle-related problems.
