Atleast 34 people have tested COVID-19 positive in two of Mumbai's posh localities. The patients have been found in two housing societies in Marine Drive.

A building on D road has 25 cases, and another building on A Road reported nine cases. The buildings have been sealed and declared as a containment area by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to a news report in Mumbai Mirror, A ward of Marine Drive has seen a weekly growth rate of 1.5 per cent which is more than the overall Mumbai average of 1.34 per cent. Over 2,170 cases and 70 deaths have been reported from A ward so far, but the rise of cases in posh societies is a new trend.

Confirming the cases, Chanda Jadhav, assistant commissioner, A ward said, “The residents have started calling their helps and drivers, who are made to stay in one room of the building.” Jadhav said letters have gone to housing societies and Marine Drive Residents’ Groups. “As per the new circular, society chairman and secretary should take responsibility for containment zones to ensure people don’t venture out. We have to see that this infection doesn’t spread in other societies. As per my information, cooks, helps and guards are made to live together in one room,” said Jadhav.
