CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray on Sunday inaugurated a 800 bed jumbo COVID facility at College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) in the presence of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Pune. Equipped with 200 ICU beds, oxygenated beds, negative pressure provisions, this facility will prove crucial for curtailing COVID infection rates.

Also, one to two jumbo facilities would be inaugurated within a week,” he said. “Till a vaccine becomes available, increasing number of tests, health facilities and reducing costs of treatment while ensuring social distancing, washing hands and wearing of masks continue to be the best defence against the virus,” he added.

Even as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said he wished that people remained healthy by following all precautions so that the new “jumbo” Covid-19 treatment facility would remain “unused”, he reiterated that the state government would not remain ignorant of the pandemic situation and be prepared to handle a “second wave” of the infection.
