After Supreme Court's order over OBC reservation in Maharashtra, CM Uddhav Thackeray on Friday called an emergency meeting in State Assembly. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, LoP Devendra Fadnavis, Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni will be present in the meeting

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) is only statutory, unlike the constitutional reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), which is linked to the proportion of the population. The apex court also ruled that the extent of reservation given to the OBC in local bodies should not be such that it takes total reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs to over 50 per cent ceiling.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar on Thursday in the house said the MVA government is committed to OBC reservation. "If the court verdict impacts all zilla parishads, the issue will be discussed with political parties and legal experts to arrive at a solution," the Deputy CM said.

However, moving the Supreme Court with a review petition against its ruling was an option before the Maharashtra government, Pawar said. Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal asked the government to make a statement on the issue before the budget session ends on March 10.
