Jalna Samruddhi Expressway Accident: At least eight people were killed and six to seven others critically injured after a pickup vehicle carrying laborers was hit by a speeding truck on the Samruddhi Expressway in Jalna district on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. According to the reports, the accident occurred near Kadwanchi village when a truck traveling from Nagpur toward Mumbai struck the pickup from behind. The vehicle was carrying women laborers who were being transported between work sites.

The impact of the collision threw some passengers out of the vehicle, and several were run over by the truck, according to preliminary reports. Local residents alerted police and emergency services, who rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to the Jalna District General Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Authorities have informed the families of the deceased, and the bodies will be handed over after post-mortem examinations.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased.
“The incident in which eight people lost their lives in an accident on the Jalna-Nagpur highway is extremely tragic. I pay heartfelt tribute to them. We share in the grief of their families,” CM Fadnavis said in a post on X.

He added that the injured have been admitted to hospital and that the local administration, including the district collector and superintendent of police, is overseeing relief efforts. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
“The state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the heirs of the deceased,” he said.
According to the media reports, local MLA Arjun Khotkar visited the hospital to review the condition of the injured and assured families of all possible government support.
The crash comes less than a month after a similar incident on March 6 near Kannad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, where three workers were killed after being run over by a truck while resting after work.
