Maharashtra is one the worst affected state hit by the pandemic. State government has even announced a 15 day lockdown to curb the spread of the disease. The Thackeray government has imposed a number of restrictions following the second wave of corona in the state. '

The demand for anti-viral drug Remdesivir used in COVID-19 treatment has increased due to surge in case. However the country is facing shortage of the drug due to which patients have to suffer.

The shortage of the vaccine has been on the rise for some time now, with a major manufacturing company shutting down for the past two days. Shockingly, the state has not received a single supply of new Remdesivir vaccine during the day.

There is a shortage of Remdesivir vaccine in the country. As a result, citizens are facing medical problems day by day to get this vaccine. Many have lost their loved ones because they did not get the vaccine. Similarly, relatives of the patients were protesting in front of the District Collector's office in Pune

There are 7 companies in the country making Remdesivir anti-viral drug. Hyderabad-based Hetro Pharma, one of the largest companies, has been closed for the past two days. This has affected the supply of vaccines as the company was shut down when there was a great need for vaccines. The company's Hyderabad plant is closed. This company alone manufactures 32,000 vaccines daily. The company's production had come to a standstill due to the last two days of holidays. The other six companies make 30,000 injections a day. These companies also supply to Maharashtra. However, Maharashtra has not received a single injection of Remedesivir on Thursday.

Earlier, the district administration had issued an order that hospitals should not be asking patient's relatives to arrange the Remdesivir injection from outside, and instead, they should themselves procure it from chemists based on their requirement and use it for treatment.

However, despite the order, hospitals are prescribing Remdesivir drug and are asking the patient's relatives to arrange it.
