A total of 419 FIRs have been registered by Maharashtra Cyber till Monday for spreading rumours, hate speeches and false news on social media amid the lockdown for the novel coronavirus outbreak, an official said.

An official said 175 cases pertained to WhatsApp, 165 to Facebook, 20 to Tiktok, eight to Twitter, four to Instagram and 47 for misusing audio and Youtube video clips.223 people were arrested by Cyber Cell of Maharashtra Police during COVID-19 induced lockdown in the state, informed Maharashtra Police

The Maharashtra Cyber department urged parents to keep a watch on the surfing habits and social media usage of children between the ages 8-17.
